Why did I choose this film? Because it rocks and it was quite cloudy on that day. I wanted to freeze the snowflakes and the emotions so I choose a relative high speed. And according to ISO and Speed, Aperture had to be around f4. I was shooting in full manual mode with no metering in manual mode (took some light readings before).Situation
I was walking through Bregenz, Capitol of Vorarlberg / Austria, when it suddenly started to snow really heavy. There were those girls half walking, half dancing through the street so I decided to take a shot while they were passing by. There were not many people on the street so I couldn't get as close as I wanted, because I didn't want to disturb the scene. When that adult crossed the street I decided to press the button to get the contrast between those different emotions.About the image adjustments
I scanned the shot from the negative with a Epson flatbed scanner. I also printed it but as I'm just starting to get into printing I'm not really satisfied with the print and due to the fact that I don't have a darkroom here where I'm studying I couldn't work on that. So I took the image to PS adjusted levels and did a bit burning (I asked wether this is allowed, but recieved no answer, due to the fact that burning is a major darkroom technique I don't see a point forbidding it). The left border is from the scan, the right border is just a copy from the left (the negative continued on that side). No more manipulations. Why this image
Well it should be an image which gives an overview over streetphotography (SP) or what is defined as SP for me. But that's quite difficult you have so many different ways and so many different topics. So this image is mainly displaying people on the streets in their everyday life. But those 500 ms are something special for this girls, they love the snow, it makes them happy. But there are alway two sides, the adults display the other side in this image (as well the one in the foreground and those with the umbrella in the background). What I really like about this image is, that you can interprete so much in this image so I invite everybody to take a few minutes and think about it.DD Update
Well that took you guys quite a long time, but I was quite surprised when I saw my inbox this morning.
for the support, the first even might get a beer if we somewhen meet in Vienna. Well just a little note on the DD - text: it's not life in Vienna, it's life in Bregenz
If anyone is that crazy to want a print of it, note me. I don't sell prints via DA, as I make them myself. I do Silver Gelatin prints, size and paper can be chosen by you.
