323 (who?)
One Mans Pleasure by azrael3000 One Mans Pleasure by azrael3000
is another mans pain.
German: "Des einen Freud ist des anderen Leid"

Exposure Detail:
Camera: Minolta XG-2
Lense: Minolta 50mm 1:1.8
Aperture: f4
Speed: 1/500s (settings are educated guess)
Film: Trix400 @ 400

Why did I choose this film? Because it rocks and it was quite cloudy on that day. I wanted to freeze the snowflakes and the emotions so I choose a relative high speed. And according to ISO and Speed, Aperture had to be around f4. I was shooting in full manual mode with no metering in manual mode (took some light readings before).

I was walking through Bregenz, Capitol of Vorarlberg / Austria, when it suddenly started to snow really heavy. There were those girls half walking, half dancing through the street so I decided to take a shot while they were passing by. There were not many people on the street so I couldn't get as close as I wanted, because I didn't want to disturb the scene. When that adult crossed the street I decided to press the button to get the contrast between those different emotions.

About the image adjustments
I scanned the shot from the negative with a Epson flatbed scanner. I also printed it but as I'm just starting to get into printing I'm not really satisfied with the print and due to the fact that I don't have a darkroom here where I'm studying I couldn't work on that. So I took the image to PS adjusted levels and did a bit burning (I asked wether this is allowed, but recieved no answer, due to the fact that burning is a major darkroom technique I don't see a point forbidding it). The left border is from the scan, the right border is just a copy from the left (the negative continued on that side). No more manipulations.

Why this image
Well it should be an image which gives an overview over streetphotography (SP) or what is defined as SP for me. But that's quite difficult you have so many different ways and so many different topics. So this image is mainly displaying people on the streets in their everyday life. But those 500 ms are something special for this girls, they love the snow, it makes them happy. But there are alway two sides, the adults display the other side in this image (as well the one in the foreground and those with the umbrella in the background). What I really like about this image is, that you can interprete so much in this image so I invite everybody to take a few minutes and think about it.

DD Update
Well that took you guys quite a long time, but I was quite surprised when I saw my inbox this morning.
Thanks `Staged and ^Obsidian-Fox for the support, the first even might get a beer if we somewhen meet in Vienna. Well just a little note on the DD - text: it's not life in Vienna, it's life in Bregenz.

If anyone is that crazy to want a print of it, note me. I don't sell prints via DA, as I make them myself. I do Silver Gelatin prints, size and paper can be chosen by you.

One Mans Pleasure by ~azrael3000 This one's actually been made for the 06 Street Contest but totally got lost in all the entries. It's a wonderful capture of life in Bregenz. An amazingly detailed description to go along with this beautiful frame, so take a look! ( Suggested by Staged and Featured by straightfromcamera )

you made the right decision to shot it only in manual mode, you got control over all the photography process. Great work. It's a pleasure to see such well-rounded piece.

The expressions here are just priceless. And you hear this sort of contrast of opinions quite often, too; a snow day, kids are cheering because they get to miss classes and go out and paly while adults grumble about all of the extra work they're going to have to put up with :D. Needless to say I still love stormy weather.

Congrats, lovely shot.

Really wonderful, I've always loved B&W film photography, I just don't think digital beats it.
But I've never had the patience.

Reading your very detailed Artist Comments are also very helpful, I might motivate myself and get started on taking some beautiful shots.

Well done on the DD.

If I made it to motivate you, it's already a great deal and much more apreciated than any fav.
